Moulin opened its doors in September 2014 with the mission of making guests feel as if they have been transported to France. With an emphasis on authenticity, everything from the food and drink to the décor and ambiance is just the way you will find it anywhere in France.
Moulin is filled with the smells of fresh-baked artisan breads and pastries, the sound of people speaking French, the sight of organic rotisserie chicken rotating as they slow-cook to perfection, the taste of a wine that triggers memories of a Paris vacation, and the touch of pastry cream as you lick your lips after enjoying a delicate pastry. Delivering all of these pleasures and more, Moulin is committed to delivering an authentic French experience for all the senses.
But Moulin is more than just an experience; it is about fulfilling a lifelong dream. Born and raised in Montmartre, Paris, Laurent created Moulin out of the love for the bistro culture that he has missed every day since moving to California in the 1980s. After a 30-year career in the action sports industry, Laurent decided to finally create a little piece of his childhood hometown in the beach city he has called home since 2003.
Moulin is also for Laurent’s mother, who chose the name “Moulin.” French for “windmill,” les moulins are a symbol of Laurent’s childhood home of the Montmartre district in Paris. It is for his wife Sophie, for whom the menu’s café gourmand is named, and for his daughter Kaya who will now have a similar experience as her father — spending a little time on weekends after school helping in his grandparents’ Parisian food market.
But most of all, Moulin is about creating a lively, warm and inviting place for anyone who wants to escape briefly from modern life and experience a little slice of France in the middle of Orange County. To you we say “bienvenue dans notre maison.”
